Drafting Answers
Once you claim a question, you’re in the editor. This is where you write, revise, and prepare your answer for review.
The Editor Layout
The question page splits into two columns:
- Left column — The draft editor. This is where you write.
- Right column — Context tabs with reference material and collaboration tools.
The right column has tabs for Discussion, Versions, Team, and Question (the original question text for quick reference). If the question was escalated from Commander, there’s also a Commander tab showing the AI conversation history.
Writing Your Answer
The editor has four fields:
- Headline — A concise title for the answer. Think of it as the one-line summary a pilot sees before reading further.
- Content — The main body of your answer. The rich text editor supports formatting (bold, italic, headings, lists), images, links, and video. Write as clearly and specifically as you can.
- Summary — A brief overview that appears in search results and question cards. Keep it to 1-2 sentences.
- Industry Consultations — Optional. Note any manufacturer guidance, service bulletins, or external sources you consulted.
Autosave
The editor autosaves your work every 10 seconds. A small indicator in the editor shows the save status:
- Saving… — A save is in progress
- Saved — Your latest changes are stored
- Error — Something went wrong (rare — try refreshing)
You won’t lose work if you close the browser or navigate away. When you come back, your draft will be exactly where you left it.
Versions
Autosave is continuous, but sometimes you want to mark a specific milestone — “finished the first draft” or “incorporated reviewer feedback.” Click Save as Draft Version in the action bar to create a named snapshot.
Each version is immutable. You can view any previous version, compare two versions side by side, or revert to an earlier version if you need to undo a round of changes. Reverting creates a new version (it doesn’t destroy history).
The Versions tab in the right column shows a compact list of all snapshots with timestamps and descriptions.
Video
You can embed video directly in the content field. Click the video button in the editor toolbar or drag and drop a video file into the editor. Supported formats include any standard video type, up to 500 MB per file.
After you select a file, the editor shows upload progress. Once the upload completes, the video is processed (this takes a few moments) and then appears as a playable video in your draft. Videos are hosted via Mux and render using MuxPlayer in the published answer.
If an upload fails or you change your mind, click the remove button on the video placeholder to delete it.
